About OPPD
Organization for Pastoral, Peace and Development (OPPD) is a grassroots non-profit committed to empowering vulnerable pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in East Africa.
Introduction
OPPD was founded by committed professionals and volunteers after surveys revealed that pastoral regions in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya are among the most food insecure in the world. Erratic rainfall, recurrent drought and fragile environments have undermined livestock production — the backbone of pastoral livelihoods.
This situation is compounded by conflicts, refugee influx, displacement and erosion of traditional social support systems. To address these urgent challenges, OPPD was established to deliver humanitarian assistance, development programs, peacebuilding, and capacity building in partnership with governments, NGOs and communities.
